It’s never too late to start or finish your educational goals. The Adult Education Block Grant (AEBG) provides new opportunities for adults who would like to finish their high school diplomas or high school equivalency degrees (GED/HiSet), learn English or citizenship skills, enhance career or technical competencies and/or complete a certificate or degree program leading to an exciting career. The north state’s answer to AEBG is Better Jobs. Better Jobs is a regional partnership program that makes sure that all education providers and support staff are working together to understand what is available for adults who would like to start or go back to school to achieve an educational goal or advance in a viable career.
Better Jobs can also provide a helping hand along the way to address barriers that may have prevented academic success in the past. Our message to adults who have tried schooling before without success is “With Better Jobs, it is different this time”. With Better Jobs, all service providers and educators will be working together to ensure a clear and seamless pathway to your educational goals. Your job will be to let us know what you would like to do; our job will be to make sure that you are presented with all of the options and services that you need to achieve the goals that you set for yourself. We recognize that adults returning to school face additional barriers. Therefore, Better Jobs can help connect you to financial assistance, academic counseling, and other support services such as child care and/or help with transportation if needed.
Whether you are just starting out, switching careers, or seeking to move up in your chosen field, Better Jobs can provide you with the courses and support services that you need to achieve your career goals. Partnerships between adult education programs, Shasta College, and service providers such as SMART and the Tehama Job Training Center will ensure that you get all the information that you need to be successful. Whether it is a class or two or a complete degree or certificate, strong partnerships with local industry and employment services such as job searching, resume writing and internships will help you take that next step towards a possible and growing career in the north state.
