Career Technical Education (CTE)

CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION

WHY IS CTE IMPORTANT?

Career Technical Education (CTE) is a non-traditional route to learning academic subject matter, employability skills, and educational pathways to explore career options and interests through contextual learning. Most, if not all, CTE courses incorporate traditional coursework in addition to hands-on experience on equipment or within a lab setting. Depending on the career path chosen, CTE courses last 1-2 years before completion.

BENEFITS TO CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION

CTE programs involve a multiyear sequence of courses integrating core academic knowledge with technical and occupational hands-on knowledge. CTE courses provide adults with a pathway to post-secondary education and careers. The California Department of Education offers Career Technical Education pathways to prepare individuals for various industry sector careers in the 21st Century and beyond.
