– HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA PREPARATION & COMPLETION –

(All adult schools in Shasta, Tehama and Trinity Counties have the same requirements of 180 credits for high school diploma completion.)

English- 40, World History- 10, Science- 20, US History- 10, Government- 5, Economics- 5, Math (including Algebra)- 30, Electives- 20, CTE/VAPA/Foreign Language- 20

NOTE: To receive a high school diploma, an individual must fulfill state/high school district requirements. California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) is NOT required. Senate Bill 172, signed into law effective January 1, 2016, suspended the CAHSEE diploma requirement and the administration of the CAHSEE through the 2017-2018 school year.

– GED PREPARATION & COMPLETION-

The GED (General Education Development) serves all adults in achieving employment and/or beginning a college education. Unemployment rates are lower for individuals without a high school diploma or GED. Many, if not all, employers require a GED.

– GED TESTING SITES –

TEST SUBJECTS

The GED test has four subjects. The test can be taken in sections. All test subject sections have different lengths. A passing score of 145 is needed on each module and 580 on all sections combined. (Sections Include: Reasoning Through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, Social Studies).

GED Testing accommodations: Students must submit a request for accommodations by emailing GED Testing Service at accommodations@gedtestingservice.com

In the subject line of the email include (Your Name/Request for Accommodation)

In the email specify what type of accommodation is needed due to current disability.

Once the accommodation has been approved, the student will need to call 1800-466-0450 Option #3 to schedule the test at an approved location. A GED Testing agent will work to help find the closest site that provides accommodations. If the agent is unsure, the agent will ask for more information and call the student back within two days.

HiSET INFORMATION

What is the HiSET?

Built on the OCTAE College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education, the HiSET exam gives out-of-school youth and adults the best opportunity to demonstrate their skills and knowledge and earn a state-issues high school equivalency credential. The HiSET is an alternative to a high school diploma that measures high school equivalency skills. In the past, the GED was the only way to measure high school equivalency skills. The HiSET is now recognized in all states.
